Yellow maize falls to lowest in one week

Johannesburg - South African yellow corn declined to the lowest since June 2 by the midday close in Johannesburg.

The crop for July delivery fell 0.2 percent to 1,960 rand a metric ton on the South African Futures Exchange.

White corn for delivery in July rose 0.4 percent to 1,851.20 rand a ton.

South Africa is the continent’s biggest producer of corn.

Meal from white corn is cooked to make one of the country’s staple foods, known as pap, and the yellow variety is mainly used as animal feed.

Wheat for delivery in July rose 0.2 percent to 3,852 rand a ton. - Bloomberg News
