Johannesburg - Eight Cosatu affiliates will march on the federation’s head office in Johannesburg on Friday, promising that at least 2000 members will participate in the protest.

They are demanding the reinstatement of the country’s biggest union, the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa), which was expelled from Cosatu last year.

They also want the immediate removal of Zingiswa Losi, Cosatu’s second deputy president. The unions believe that Losi was not a properly elected shop steward of a union after she resigned from Numsa.

The affiliates told reporters on Thursday that they still wanted a special national congress, which would see the election on new Cosatu leaders, to take place. However, they would not participate unless Numsa was allowed to attend.

The ANC is currently attempting to negotiate a truce between Cosatu's 19 affiliates.
