Anglo American Platinum: Six injured as tremor shakes mine

Six Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) employees sustained minor injuries following a mild tremor at the Siphumelele mine outside Rustenburg yesterday morning. The employees were injured after a tremor measuring 2.8 on the Richter scale, spokeswoman Mpumi Sithole said yesterday. Emergency services and medical staff had been deployed to provide the necessary medical attention. A tremor measuring 4 on the magnitude scale was felt in Gauteng on November 18. Quakes or tremors occur as a result of stress in the earth’s crust. Amplats shares slid 0.38 percent to close at R380.05 on the JSE yesterday.
