Midrand - Congress of South African Trade Union (Cosatu) North West provincial secretary Solly Phetoe does not know whether he had been nominated for the deputy secretary post of the federation, he said on Monday.
“The congress will decide...I do not have a mandate [to comment on election nomination],” he said.
His name has been thrown around as one of three candidates contesting the deputy secretary post.
The other two were deputy general secretary of the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa) Oscar Phaka and South African Democratic Teachers' Union (Sadtu) general secretary Mugwena Maluleke.
Delegates arriving at the Cosatu Congress being held in Midrand this week sang songs indicating that they preferred Sidumo Dlamini to continue as the federation president and current second deputy president Zingiswa Losi to fill the position of the general secretary.
The position became vacate when Zwelinzima Vavi was expelled in March.
The congress, in session from Monday to Thursday, is expected to elect a new leadership. About 2 500 delegates were expected to attend the congress.
