Eskom would rework plans for maintenance to ensure it had enough electricity to meet demand after a boiler incident cut 600 megawatts of capacity, the utility said.

Excess pressure in a boiler at the Duvha plant in Mpumalanga caused the facility’s third unit to trip on Sunday, Eskom said on Monday.

Duvha has six units, each with 600MW of generating capacity. A team of engineers was unable to start its investigation on Monday as it had to wait for the boiler to cool down, spokesman Andrew Etzinger said yesterday.

“While the system is very tight we are not predicting any load-shedding,” he said. – Bloomberg
