BusaMed to build hospitals

BusaMed, one of South Africa’s first black-owned health-care groups, has secured R1 billion to build four new private hospitals in the Western Cape, Free State and Gauteng. The group said it had obtained licences to develop three more private hospitals in Harrismith, Johannesburg and Bloemfontein. BusaMed granted Standard Bank the mandate to fund the first four hospitals and the bank said it had enlisted Futuregrowth Asset Management to co-finance a significant portion of the debt facilities. – Londiwe Buthelezi

Impostors scam loan applicants

Scores of personal loan applicants are believed to have been defrauded by impostors pretending to represent lenders such as Clientèle. The impostors had fraudulently led unsuspecting consumers to believe they were applying for genuine personal loans and then asked them to pay a deposit or initiation fee into a bank account, Clientèle said yesterday. The company said it was not known yet how many people had been defrauded because the scam had affected the entire industry. Clientèle said the fraudsters had approached both its previous clients and people who had never applied for Clientèle loans. Personal details of targeted consumers were accessed from marketing databases. – Londiwe Buthelezi
