Johannesburg - Limusa, the rival to metalworkers union Numsa, has been accepted into Cosatu.

The decision was made by the federation’s special central executive committee meeting ion Johannesburg on Monday.

The Liberated Metalworkers of SA was founded by Numsa dissidents last year, including the union’s former president Cedric Gina.

Approached for comment, Gina told Independent Media: “I have not been informed yet.”

However, the go-ahead was confirmed by two senior unionists.

This means that any hope of Numsa being reinstated into Cosatu after being expelled last year for allegedly poaching members from sister unions, have been dashed.

It would be unlikely for Cosatu to have two rival metalworkers’ unions in its fold.
