Johannesburg - There will be no planned rolling blackouts on Monday, Eskom announced.
“We have enough generating capacity, maintenance that we needed to do has been completed,” said spokesman Khulu Phasiwe. “Most generators are back online and so the system looks good. There will be no loadshedding for the whole day.”
The embattled power utility implemented rolling blackouts most of last week, as it struggled to keep the lights on due to plant maintenance issues. On Sunday, stage one power cuts were implemented between 7am and 10pm.
The cash-strapped Eskom has applied to the National Energy Regulator of SA (Nersa) for a hike of 25.3 percent in electricity tariffs. Nersa said it would make a decision on the matter by the end of June.
