Johannesburg - There will be no planned power cuts on Tuesday morning, Eskom said.

“There will be no load shedding for the first part of today, as there is currently enough electricity generating capacity to meet demand,” the power utility said in a statement.

“The power system is stable at present and should there be a need to load shed in the evening, Eskom will advise the public accordingly.”

Eskom implemented Stage 1 blackouts on Monday, after load shedding for most of last week.

Stage 1 allows for up to 1 000 MW of the national load to be saved; Stage 2 for up to 2 000 MW; and Stage 3 for up to 4 000 MW.

Last week, Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown said South Africans should brace themselves for a tough two years ahead. Brown confirmed the country had lost almost a third of its generating capacity due to planned and unplanned maintenance work being done at the country’s power plants.
