SABMiller deputy chairman John Manser would continue to lead the board after chairman Graham Mackay was granted medical leave of absence following brain surgery in April, the brewer said yesterday. SABMiller said Manser would continue as acting chairman to allow Mackay time to focus on his treatment. The board would keep the position under review as Mackay’s treatment progressed, and an appropriate announcement in this regard would be made as soon as a decision had been taken, the company said. SABMiller added that because of increased responsibilities, Manser had stood down as chairman of the audit committee this week, a year earlier than planned, and would be replaced by Mark Amour. Manser had also retired from the audit and remuneration committees. SABmiller fell 0.36 percent to close at R502.56 yesterday. – Nompumelelo Magwaza
