Tourism: Lodging prices boost income

INCOME from the tourism accommodation industry rose 3.7 percent in February, compared with a year ago, as tourists stayed for a shorter time but paid more for their accommodation. This is according to figures released by Statistics SA yesterday. Income from tourist accommodation rose 2.8 percent year on year in February as it stood at R1.6 billion. Caravan and campsites recorded the highest increase in February at 7.5 percent followed by hotels at 5.1 percent. Guest houses and guest farms had subdued growth at 0.6 percent. – ANA
