CLOSE relatives of honeymoon murder victim Anni Dewani have reacted angrily to a BBC programme that claimed the investigation into her death was flawed.

In the Panorama special broadcast last night, scientists said there was only a “cloud of suspicion” over her husband, Shrien, “rather than any evidence”.

Professor of forensic science Jim Fraser said: “This is not an investigation that would meet the standards in this country (Britain).”

The BBC team obtained police files in the prosecution case against Dewani, 33, who is fighting extradition.

Panorama said CCTV footage and phone records appeared to contradict parts of the account given by the couple’s taxi driver on the night, Zola Tongo, who is serving 18 years in jail for his role in the kidnapping.

Among other things, a supposed phone call from Dewani on the day of the murder did not take place, it said.

Firearms expert Mark Mastaglio said a wound in Anni’s hand suggested she was shot at close range in a struggle. Police say she was executed.

Ashok Hindocha, Anni’s uncle, said the programme was one-sided and discredited. The producers had rejected his request to be allowed to reply on camera.
