Everything should be done to unearth those who are behind xenophobic attacks in South Africa, Premier Soccer League chairman Irvin Khoza said today.

“We should go to the Constitutional Court if it comes to that. I am not advocating for a state of emergency, I know we have a capable leadership, but something must be done. We have to unite against this because this is costly for us,” Khoza said at an anti-xenophobic meeting that included celebrities and sport administrator called by the African National Congress in Johannesburg.

“There is no place for xenophobia in South Africa. We condemn this in the strongest terms. We must also dispel the myth that other Africans took care of us, and now it is our time to do the same.”

The attacks on foreign nationals and looting of shops started over two weeks ago in Isipingo, outside of Durban and spread to some areas across the country.

Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba on Sunday told reporters in Pretoria that more than 300 people had been arrested in relation to widespread attacks on foreign nationals and looting.

Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini has called for an imbizo at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban today to address the ongoing xenophobia violence. Mozambican national Emmanuel Sithole was stabbed and killed in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg over the weekend. Three people have since been arrested.

On Saturday, President Jacob Zuma cancelled an official trip to Indonesia to deal with matters at home.
