Four children died when four shacks burnt down in Khayelitsha, Cape Town fire a rescue service reported on Tuesday.

Spokesman Theo Layne said a six-year-old boy and three girls, aged between 18 months and three years, sustained fatal injuries in Golishe Crescent, in an informal settlement in U section in Khayelitsha on Monday night.

“Four informal structures were destroyed and two formal dwellings sustained damage.

The incident left 12 persons displaced.”

Layne said 31 fire fighters attended the scene with four fire engines and four water tankers.

He said the cause of the fire had not been established, the incident was handed over to the police for further investigation.
