An Amanzimtoti woman died at Kingsway Hospital on Sunday after her husband threw two hand grenades at her.

It is alleged that at about 1.45am, the two had an argument at their home in Karridale Drive in Shulton Park, and as the row escalated, the husband threw the hand grenades at his wife, and they exploded.

The 33-year-old woman was severely injured and a family member rushed her to hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Police spokesman Thulani Zwane said the 30-year-old man had fled after the incident.

By Sunday night, he had still not been apprehended.

“A case of murder was opened at Amanzimtoti police for further investigation. The explosives unit found both hand grenades in the house,” said Zwane.

It is still not clear what led to the argument or how the husband had hand grenades in his possession.

Zwane pleaded with anyone who had information that might lead to the arrest of the husband, or knew anything of his likely whereabouts, to contact the Amanzimtoti police station. – The Mercury
