Jimmy Nevis is “trying to get South Africa back into pop music” and he’s hoping his latest single Misscato will be joining the path of previous chart-toppers like Elephant Shoes and Heartboxing to aid his mission.

The 21-year-old “alternative pop” singer, songwriter and producer said he feels that pop music is “neglected” and “undermined” in South Africa, but he’s sure he can change that.

“I love the fact that I can be a part of someone's memory. Pop music has that power. I feel like I've been wanting this for so long that I have to embrace it,” he said.

Misscato, written by Matthew Le Roux, was released on Simfy exclusively at the end of June and on July 14 on other digital platforms.

And good news for fans who have already heard and loved the new single, Nevis is currently working on his second album, The Masses, which is “set to be released in the upcoming months of 2014”.

His debut album Subliminal was released in November 2012 by Cape Town record label Rude World Records, “with a publishing, licensing and distribution deal with David Gresham Records”.

Since, he’s topped South African charts and his Heartboxing music video reached the top of music channel Trace Urban’s African chart early last year and been listed in the top five nominees for the record of the year at the South African Music Awards.

And to further improve his success, he signed an “exclusive deal” for distribution with Ultra Records in the United States in April. With Ultra Records, he joins the ranks of Steve Aoki, Deadmau5 and Benny Benassi.
