SOUTH African artists Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Bongo Maffin and Muzart will perform at MTN Bushfire, Swaziland’s international festival of the arts, from May 30 to June 1.

Artists from over 10 countries have been confirmed, including diverse acts such as the much-loved and 1970s-inspired Bogota-based Colombian salsa artists La 33, Mokoomba from Zimbabwe, Under Kontrol from France, Red Five Point Star from Slovenia and the Imperial Tiger Orchestra from Switzerland.

The South African contingent will also feature Uhuru, Derek Gripper and Dan Patlansky, with Qibho & Sands, Bholoja, PelePele Cultural Group and Floewe representing Swaziland.

Last year saw over 20 000 guests converge on the Malkerns Valley, with day passes selling out early.

Festival goers will get to enjoy dozens of artists from around the world across a variety of stages at the socially responsible festival. Bushfire is a celebration of live music, theatre, poetry, film, circus, dance and visual arts.

There will be a handcraft market, family-friendly performances and a KidZone, as well as the interactive art and dialogue space, The Barn. The Global Food Village will celebrate a wide variety of cultures through the art of food. From traditional Swazi delights to an array of European and Asian offerings, there is something for everyone. The Global Food Village is also an opportunity for local entrepreneurs to gain access to a diverse market.

The festival has a reputation for developing the arts, as well as promoting social responsibility. To that end, all the profits will be donated to two Swazi charities: Young Heroes, a child sponsorship programme which works with orphans; and Gone Rural boMake, which assists rural women with information and infrastructural development.
