Convicted killer Thandi Maqubela would represent herself in court as she was broke and could no longer afford lawyers, The Sunday Independent said.
“So she’s in a difficult position right now,” retired attorney and family friend Les Civin was quoted as saying.
Civin said she could not keep privately appointed lawyers because she did not have any money.
Maqubela, who was found guilty of killing her husband, acting judge Patrick Maqubela, is due in court for sentencing on August 4.
Earlier this month, the Western Cape High Court granted a restraint order preventing Maqubela from inheriting her husband’s R7.2-million estate until the case was finalised.
