Metrorail trains heading towards Johannesburg were delayed, following cable theft in Germiston, a spokeswoman said.

“All trains going towards Johannesburg are delayed from Springs to Tembisa, Vereeniging, Katlehong and Pretoria,” Metrorail spokeswoman Lilian Mofokeng said.

“The delay is because of cable theft in Germiston.”

Mofokeng could not say if the cable theft was at a railway line.

Since 6am trains were around 40 minutes late, she said.

“We are getting it resolved, and there is no expectation of train delays in the afternoon peak,” said Mofokeng.
