ARCHBISHOP Emeritus Desmond Tutu is expected to spend more time in hospital for treatment and observation after undergoing a “small investigative procedure”.
The procedure took place on Friday to determine the status of an infection he battled with recently. His family had hoped he would be discharged from hospital at the weekend.
Tutu, 83, was admitted to a Cape Town hospital after renewed discomfort last Tuesday. His readmission came seven days after the Nobel Peace Prize laureate was discharged for a persistent infection.
Tutu’s daughter, Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu, said her father’s medical team was satisfied with the progress of his antibiotic treatment.
She said although the cancer was under control, the infection was a consequence of past treatment that the archbishop had received for prostate cancer.
The family gave thanks again for widespread prayers of support.
