FOUR, three, two, one and start!

It’s all systems go for the Electronics and Games Expo (EGE 2015) as hundreds of game and tech lovers are expected to flock to the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) today.

EGE 2015 promises to be a gamers’ paradise, with tournaments, sneak peaks, exhibits and demonstrations. It’s is the first time the event is being held in the Mother City, and is one of the biggest gaming and gadget conferences to be held in Cape Town.

EGE spokesperson Ziad Kriel said local gamers had been asking for the event for many years. “It’s significant because it is the first time it is happening in Cape Town,” Kriel said.

A similar event, Rage, takes place in Johannesburg. Kriel said people used to travel there, but it is not economically viable.

Gamers will enjoy eSports Lan competitions and be able to run across a number of platforms like Xbox and Playstations. Games; Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare; and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournaments will be held, while Fifa will also give soccer lovers a chance to prove themselves.

“I am incredibly excited. Cape Town really is going to be buzzing. We have put in a lot of effort. We needed to convince a lot of Johannesburg video-based game distributors to be here,” Kriel said.

Entrance is R70 through Computicket and R80 at the door. There are also three-day weekend pass packages which cost R150.
