SOUTH AFRICAN musician Jimmy Nevis has graduated from UCT with a bachelor’s degree in social science.

UCT said in a statement yesterday that, Nevis, 21, whose real name is Matthew le Roux, graduated on Tuesday.

“Graduating from UCT is something I’ve always strived for,” said Nevis.

“It’s been a long journey but I am thrilled and over the moon to be moving on to the next phase of my life.

“My time at UCT has also served as an inspiration for content and lyrics.

“I have had so many ups and downs here and a lot of my sophomore album, The Masses, was inspired and influenced by my sociology studies. With this degree, I am honoured to represent my community and be an inspiration to my fans.

“May we never limit ourselves.”

Nevis posted about his graduation ceremony on social networking site Twitter, including a photograph of himself alongside his parents, wearing his graduation robe and holding up his degree.

The Capetonian singer, songwriter and producer is known for hits such as Heartboxing, Elephant Shoes and In Love With You.

At 20 he released his debut album, Subliminal, to nationwide success and even signed a US record deal with Ultra Records.
