PROVINCIAL police hosted a Christmas party yesterday for 58 children and the partners of police officers who had died in the line of duty.

Themed “Caring and Healing”, the event was held at the Bugs family playground in Kraaifontein in partnership with private companies that sponsored gifts, games, music and other entertainment.

“In essence it is a family event filled with fun, laughter and loads of entertainment,” said police spokeswoman Novela Potelwa. She said eight police officers had died on duty this year, with two others killed while off-duty.

Western Cape police commissioner Arno Lamoer said: “This is the busiest time of the year for SAPS members, but we feel it is important that we make time for you.”
