Search for seven as store robbed

POLICE are searching for seven gunmen who robbed a jewellery store in Somerset Mall yesterday.

Police spokesman Tembinkosi Kinana said no shots were fired and no one was injured.

More than 300 people were arrested in the past week for various crimes.

Kinana said 239 people had been arrested in Kuils River for murder, assault, child neglect and rape.

Sixty-five were fined for less serious crimes, including being drunk in public and riotous behaviour.

Among 28 people arrested in Vrygrond near Muizenberg was a 29-year-old man who was found to be in possession of 17 mandrax tablets and five packets of tik and dagga.

At Kalk Bay Harbour, three people were found in possession of 34 shelled abalone, and arrested.

A man of 25 appeared in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

In Khayelitsha, a man was arrested for beating a 28-year-old woman with a hammer and burning her face with boiling water. – Staff Writer
