THE man questioned over multiple murder and rape cases in the Peninsula was charged with the murder of Nonthemba Ndondo in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court yesterday, when he also abandoned his application for bail.

Khangayi Sedumedi was arrested at his Gugulethu home on January 7 and was due to make a formal application for bail yesterday, but abandoned the application after the State charged him with murder.

He had already been charged with rape and two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The murder charge relates to that of Ndondo, 20, a Ratanga Junction cleaner whose body was found in bushes near Century City on December 19, three days after she had gone missing.

The police report said Sedumedi allegedly killed Ndondo by “hitting her with a rock against the head and inflicting certain mortal injuries of which they said Nonthemba Ndondo died”.

The rape charge relates to that of a 30-year-old woman near Acacia Park on February 20, 2013. One robbery with aggravating circumstances charge relates to the same woman, who was allegedly threatened with a knife and robbed of her cellphone and R100 cash.

The other charge of robbery with aggravating circumstances relates to an incident on May 27 last year in Century City, where Pamela Toholoba was threatened with a firearm and robbed of her handbag, which contained a cellphone, train ticket, student card and her shoes.

Yesterday, State prosecutor Mornay Julius told magistrate Sean Lea there were “further developments” in the police investigations.

Lea postponed the matter until March 24.
