THE DStv Mitchells Plain Festival has been a resounding success, with thousands from around the Cape getting a taste of local innovation, talent and skills.

Festival director Rozario Brown said 37 000 people attended the festival, including people who came from as far afield as Wellington, Worcester, and Paarl. “We have had a very positive response from the public, some had to wait in line for 30 minutes. The traders are happy, as well. Some had sold out their stock on Saturday.” People watched in awe as dance crews took to the stage, and danced and sang along as artist after artist performed.

The SA National Defence Force showed off their skills in mock attacks and search and rescues.

Masques-Brett Snell from Tafelsig said the festival was the perfect platform for small businesses, such as Mitchells Plain Online. Snell is part of a team behind the online store, which was started a few months ago.

“We have had a lot of sales. There have also been some bigger companies that want us to be their supplier,” he added.

Ruwayda Martin of Delft makes mainly women’s clothing and sells the products to support her family.

Martin had been working for about 30 years in a textile factory but had to leave work to take care of her son who was battling kidney failure.
