From elegant ballgowns to an outfit made of old ties, the Pietermaritzburg School of Fashion’s annual show promises to be a showcase of talent.

Some 45 students will take part in the event which will be held in the Sir Winston Churchill Theatre, Pietermaritzburg, on Saturday from 6.30pm.

The school celebrates 49 years this year and 7 670 students have passed through its doors, some going on to win awards and run successful businesses.

The show will feature five categories, including a recycling one, in which students have used discarded garments and accessories to create something beautiful. This includes a dress made of old ties, an outfit of old tyres and a garment made of old jerseys and donated buttons.

At the other end of the scale is glamour that includes a nature-inspired African ballgown with ruffled layers and a dress inspired by autumn leaves.

Tickets, at R65, are available at the college, 192 Retief Street, Pietermaritzburg, call 033 345 4671 or 082 927 4218.
