Durban - The SA food guide Eat Out has announced a new award category, the Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Best Everyday Eateries.
The winners will be determined by the public who have until September 30 to vote on line.
The new award differs from the flagship annual Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards because it recognises casual eateries that people love to visit every day, and will include winners for each of South Africa’s nine provinces. The winners will be announced next month.
Members of the Eat Out community influence the results with star ratings when they review a restaurant on the site.
Stars are awarded from one (poor) to five (excellent) for food and drinks, ambience and service.
Users can write a review and give a rating at www.eatout.co.za/write-review/.
The restaurants with the highest star ratings, calculated from October 1, last year to September 30, in their category and province will be the winners.
The categories are Best Asian Eatery, Best Bistro, Best Country-Style Eatery, Best Italian Eatery, Best Steakhouse, Best Coffee Shop, Best Burger Eatery, Best Indian Eatery, Best African Eatery and Best Seafood Eatery, with a winner for each category in each of South Africa’s nine provinces (provided that minimum criteria are met).
Says Anelde Greeff, editor in chief of Eat Out: “We hope that diners use this opportunity to raise their favourite eateries to fame. The rating mechanism is a model used by international reviewing sites and we’re looking forward to seeing which eateries reach the top ranks in each category for each province.”
In addition to influencing the results with their star ratings and reviews, every time a reader posts an online review, a meal is pledged to Stop Hunger Now SA. Since the launch of this partnership in November last year, more than 3 000 meals have been pledged.
The prestigious Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards will be held in November, when the Restaurant of the Year, Chef of the Year, Top 10 restaurants and more awards will be announced.
