I discovered just weeks ago that I’m becoming a gran in December. I could thus be forgiven for being partial to babies and toddlers. But my reaction to the stunning photographs in the book had nothing to do with my impending granny status.

These are not just “cute” photographs, they portray babies who are comfortable and in control in their watery surroundings.

The only text in this book is the author’s introduction, where he explains that the aim of the book is to make people aware of how at ease babies and toddlers are under water and of the need to introduce little ones to water in a safe and instructive environment. The pictures do the talking and are not spoiled by any comments.

The beautiful and touching pictures in this book were taken at various swimming schools for babies and toddlers in the US.

I couldn’t help but wonder how many hours it must have taken for Seth Casteel to catch the precious expressions he has immortalised.

But it must have given him as much joy as it will afford anyone paging through this book – unless you’re not partial to babies. In which case, give this book a wide berth, because there is nowhere for you to hide once you open it.
