Durban - Monday would have been Kevindran Naidoo’s 30th birthday and he would have been celebrating the milestone with his wife and children.

But his life was cut short in 2011, and on Friday his murderer, Jayendran Sewnath, was sent to prison for life.

Naidoo’s mother, Orlean Naidoo, broke down in tears as sentence was passed in the Durban High Court.

Wiping away her tears, she told the Daily News that Sewnath and his accomplice, who is already serving two life sentences for his role in the murders, must “rot” in prison for what they did.

“I am quite pleased, although it was a prolonged case. This is such an emotional time for the family. Kevin would have been 30 on Monday,” Naidoo said on Friday.

“It has been three years of pain. They must rot in jail and I am very happy that he (Sewnath) was denied leave to appeal. He must now learn what a hard life is all about.”

Steven Chetty, whose son, Sebastian, was also murdered at the same time, expressed his relief at the punishment, saying they could now get some closure.

“We are very happy with the judge’s sentencing. What happened to our boys was horrible – the manner in which they were ambushed and killed,” Chetty said.

“We want to thank the policemen involved, the prosecutors and everyone else who helped in bringing these murderers to face justice.

“We will never forgive or forget.”
