South Africa’s biggest TV and theatre comedy stars will be a long way from home this week when the annual, award-winning Cape Town Funny Festival chuckles its way back onto a stage in Wimbledon, London.
Back by popular demand for two nights only, New Wimbledon Theatre will play host again to South Africa’s brightest comedy stars at the weekend following the hugely successful 2014 inaugural Cape Town Funny Festival in London.
The Jive Cape Town Funny Festival, delivered by Turkish Airlines, has become the most prestigious comedy festival in South Africa and includes the country’s biggest TV and theatre comics.
The London show will be hosted by Cape Town comedy legend and New Wimbledon Theatre favourite Alan Committie.
Committie won many fans when he played opposite comedian Jo Brand to critical acclaim in the theatre’s annual Christmas pantomime.
Joining Committie will be some of the country’s premier comedians, delivering a unique display of their rich and eclectic humour.
Among them will be South Africa’s top female comic, Tumi Morake, the wicked and charming actor and comedian, Siv Ngesi, and quintessential comedy heavyweight Kagiso Mokgadi (KG).
KG’s comedy transverses the traditional and modern, and he blends both into a hilarious look at life in South Africa.
Ndumiso Lindi will also bring his deep voice, warm smile, booming laughter, original content and seamless delivery to Wimbledon for the first time.
The Cape Town Funny Festival in London takes place at the New Wimbledon Theatre on Friday and Saturday.
The project has been made possible by the City of Cape Town, Turkish Airlines and Wesgro, the official destination marketing, investment agency for the Western Cape.
