London - She is known for her no-nonsense attitude, and has never been one to shy away from taboo subjects.
Now Joanna Lumley has spoken out about the importance of planning your own funeral – and revealed she wants to be buried in a cardboard coffin.
The actress, 68, said she has made a will and intends to be buried in a painted cardboard box filled with items such as books, “some feathers and nice bits and pieces”.
She also had some stern words for those who avoid thinking about such things: “Just get a tight grip. If you haven’t understood that if you are born you die, you scarcely deserve to be able to be alive.”
Lumley told Saga magazine: “I love a cardboard coffin. Both Mommy and Daddy went off in cardboard coffins, painted – Daddy’s was rifle green. Beautifully made.
“I’m going to have put in all kinds of things for the journey. I think we could jam a bit more in our coffins than we do.
“I’m going to have some books, some I haven’t finished or haven’t read, some feathers and nice bits and pieces, the odd note. Just on the journey for the next bit.’”- Daily Mail
