Are the Red Hot Chili Peppers finally coming to South Africa? The rumours of a possible tour by the US supergroup were sparked by a tweet from the group’s drummer Chad Smith earlier this year.

In response to a follower asking the group to include Africa in their world tour itinerary, Smith tweeted: “Ok then..Were comin in Feb!”

Big Concerts, who are bringing Lady Gaga to South Africa in November, have not commented on Smith’s message.

Smith’s tweet has, nonetheless, sparked a Twitter storm, with many South African music fans convinced that the group will visit these shores sometime next year.

The Chili Peppers launched their world tour in March this year to promote their new album “I’m With You” - playing across North America for two months, before taking on a series of European music festivals. - IOL
