One of the most-loved radio slots in South Africa has to be The Happy Hour on 5FM every week day. The show is usually hosted by the talented Roger Goode from 6pm to 7pm. What makes it unique is the fact that you’ll hear ordinary songs that are hot right now all mashed up into one track in a very innovative way. If you have no respect for DJs, this is one show that will change your mind.

To spice things up, 5FM have called in the amazing award-winning record producer, Black Coffee, to also be a resident Ultimix DJ. Since last Friday, Black Coffee has been mandated to create two lengthy mixes for the The Happy Hour every first Friday of the month.

“I’m excited to be on board with 5FM to bring an exclusive hour-long Black Coffee Ultimix to listeners every month. The timing is perfect and I’m looking forward to connecting with the entire 5FM family,” said Black Coffee.

What most music lovers know about Black Coffee is his ability to adapt to any genre that he feels like playing. His Africa Rising live recording showed the depths that the DJ is willing to go as he incorporated a wide variety of genres just to prove he is among the best.

The 5FM listeners are so spoilt because there is no telling what he will bring to the airwaves each month. With other DJs, you can tell a mile away what they are likely to play thanks to the fact that they wear their musical preferences on their sleeve.

Although he is said to have started his music career in 1994, it was his remix of Hugh Masekela’s Stimela that got the world to take notice of him. Soon after that he went on to work with Masekela and Thandiswa Mazwai on his critically acclaimed debut album.

What made the album a classic was not only the sound, but the fact that it was made by using basic music software found on the DJ’s computer. He was passionate about getting it out to concentrate on sophisticated music-making means.

Now he owns his own record company, Soulistic Music, and is travelling the world making music at airport lounges and in hotel rooms.

5FM’s Goode is excited to have Black Coffee on the station because he is aware of the value the man will bring to the brand.

“Coffee and I have been chatting about doing this for some time now.

“Fridays on the 5FM Happy Hour will be a great new place for him to showcase his new beats,” said Goode.

• Tune in every first Friday of the month for Black Coffee Ultimix on 5FM.
