London - Bigger busts are causing a backache epidemic among British women, it is claimed.

Research shows that being curvy is not always comfortable with one in ten women who described themselves as being “top-heavy” suffering back pain.

Many women are also victims of fashion with high heels and big handbags causing achy feet, strained shoulders and stiff necks, a poll showed.

Along with waistlines, British busts are growing and the average bra size is now a generous 36DD. Large breasts can put strain on the back, shoulder and neck and cause headaches.

The survey of 1 000 women found that one in five under the age of 40 experience back, joint or muscular pain on a daily basis. Back pain was the most common cause for concern among all ages in the survey for Mentholatum, makers of Deep Relief gel.

More than a quarter of women in their 20s said large handbags had led to aches and pains, while 90 percent of the same age group said high heels had left them hobbling home.

Older women were more likely to attribute their aches and pains to arthritis and housework.
