London - More than half of cat and dog owners regularly lose sleep because their pets wake them up early, according to a survey.

And, contrary to received wisdom, many owners also said their pets cause them “lots of stress”.

The survey of 1 000 cat and dog owners found 54 percent often lose up to an hour and a half of sleep, most commonly because of barking or mewing.

Next came scratching at the bedroom door by a pet seeking a cuddle or food, while around one in five owners get a regular rude awakening by their pet leaping on their bed.

About three percent of owners were woken by their pet biting or nibbling them.

Other problems included pets scratching around in the litter tray or sitting on their sleeping owner’s face.

The survey for mattress firm memoryfoamwarehouse.co.uk found that, contrary to the belief that pets help us relax, 34 percent of owners said their cat or dog’s antics left them stressed. - Daily Mail
