London - Almost nine in ten people can’t tell when someone is dangerously overweight, a study found.

And the more fat friends someone has, the more they could risk failing to spot their own weight problems.

Researchers from Liverpool University showed 1 000 people photos of men of various sizes and asked them to say if they were a healthy weight, overweight or obese.

The volunteers correctly spotted overweight men in just 30 percent of cases, while this dropped to just 13 percent for the obese.

And researcher Melissa Oldham told the UK Congress on Obesity that “fat blindness” was more likely the more fat friends someone had.

She added this could have public health consequences because people need to recognise obesity if they are to be motivated to change. - Daily Mail
