London - Taking your time with exam revision is more effective than cramming it into the last few days - or hours - a study claims.

Researchers analysed skills of 850 000 people learning how to play the quick decision-making online game Axon.

Academics found it was better to practise for a while and then have a rest compared to continuously playing in the hope of improving. Leaving a day between sessions also strengthened performance.

Professor Tom Stafford, of the University of Sheffield who analysed the data, said: ‘You can learn more efficiently or use the same practice time to learn to a higher level.’ He added that the perception that more is learned by cramming is illusory.
