London - You may think it takes a grand gesture to impress your mom.

But if you want to be the perfect daughter, it is the simplest things that count.

Being comfortable confiding in her, giving an honest opinion on shopping trips and calling her regularly are the most treasured traits in adult daughters, according to a poll of mothers.

Also high on the list is being available in a crisis, as well as sending daily texts and arranging girly trips together.

About 1 000 mothers and 1 000 adult daughters were surveyed to gauge the modern mother-daughter relationship. The poll showed there are a lot of happy moms in Britain – seven in ten described their relationship with their daughter as perfect, saying as long as she leads a good life they will be content.

And 85 percent revealed they are more than happy with the effort their daughter already makes for them.

But this high rating does not extend to the boys. Half of moms polled said that their daughters are much better at keeping in touch than their sons and 47 percent said their daughters put more thought into birthday gifts.

Daughters are also much more likely to remember anniversaries, the poll found. Despite this, half of daughters polled said they still feel like they could do more for their moms. Most women see their mom once a week, chat on the phone three times a week and text every other day, according to the research.

And daughters are also moms’ pick for holidays. Two thirds said they would love to go abroad with their daughter and 88 percent said that ideally, they would enjoy a girly weekend away annually.

When it comes to a girl’s all-important wedding day, moms still want to be involved as much as ever. One in five said they would insist on helping to organise the big day.

Personalised gift website Gettingpersonal.co.uk commissioned the poll.

A spokesman said: “This research shows it is the little things that daughters do that make a difference.”
