London - Wall-to-wall TV cookery shows may present a wealth of nutritious food ideas for families, but it seems parents are happy to serve up the basics to their children.

According to a poll, the average youngster eats just five different meals a week – with the most popular being sausages, fish fingers and spaghetti bolognaise.

More than eight in ten of the parents questioned said this was because their child was a “fussy eater”. However, only a quarter had made an effort to broaden their child’s eating habits.

The survey also found just one in five youngsters ate vegetables every day. Half of the 1 912 parents questioned said their children – all aged ten or under – “simply won’t eat vegetables”.

The top five meals found by the poll for Vouchercloud.com were: Spaghetti bolognaise (43 percent); sausage and chips (40 percent); roast dinner (37 percent); sausage and mash (35 percent); fish fingers and chips (35 percent). - Daily Mail
