London - The number of parents who read their children a bedtime story at least five nights a week has almost doubled in a generation, according to a study.

The survey found that half of parents read to their young ones every night, while only one in 25 never read to their kids.

Some parents are also giving traditional tales a makeover, with 11 per cent making them shorter, while 2 per cent are even introducing a celebrity into the story.

Pop stars and musicians are the most popular additions to stories, followed by members of the royal family and actors.

The survey of more than 1,100 members of the Netmums community by the makers of Aquafresh Kids also found that 70 per cent of parents find time to tell a bedtime story to their children at least five nights per week. - Daily Mail
