London - Once it was socks, ties or something for the toolbox. These days the perfect Father’s Day present is more likely to be a kitchen gadget or cooking utensil.
With more men taking an interest in cooking, gifts such as recipe books and crockery are making it on to a dad’s wish list.
Asked what they would choose for themselves for Father’s Day, 32 percent of men polled said BBQ utensils, while 18 percent hankered after a cookbook.
Twelve percent said they would love cookware with pots such as lasagna dishes and tagines particular favourites.
Nine percent wanted a novelty apron and a very undemanding five percent chose oven gloves.
The survey of 1 126 men by Debenhams followed a rise in sales of all kitchen and cookware at the store since the start of the year. Powerful whole-fruit juicers, healthy grills and speedy bread-makers have fuelled the rise in kitchenware sales.
But basics such as salt and pepper grinders, scales and chopping boards are also up on last year.
