London - With reports about its benefits for the heart, you might be forgiven for thinking red wine is the only alcoholic drink of any merit - but a modest intake of any alcohol cuts the risk of dying prematurely.

However, as half a bottle of a full-bodied red contains 5.2 units, it’s very easy to overdo it.

Moreover, only a few obscure and expensive red wines supply enough procyanidins (the ingredient that keeps arteries healthy) to boost heart health.

In fact, the average 175ml glass of red wine supplies only a quarter of the procyanidins of an apple, according to an analysis published in the Journal Of Nutrition. - Daily Mail
