Review: Nespresso Pixie Clips machine

I recently had the pleasure of taking the newest Nespresso offering for a workplace test drive. Here's the five-minute run-down.

After everyone had stopped ooh-ing and aah-ing over it, we managed to set it up, and get some coffee going. None of us were familiar with Nespresso machines, but the design is simple and intuitive enough to be able to skip the manual. Don’t be us, though - the manual is well-written and clearly illustrated. It probably adds a lot to the overall experience that we missed out on because we were trying to get coffee.

Most importantly, the flavour and quality of the coffee was good enough for journalists - which is a very good benchmark to meet. However, it did sometimes taste a little acidic, so there is room for improvement. We tried all the blends and roasts and grinds available, and had a great time making the IOL offices smell like a luxury coffee bar. The machine works quickly and delivers an attractive coffee with a rich crema, consistently.

Bearing in mind the long history of beautiful Italian coffee machines, you might ask "But what does it look like?" In a word - pretty. I love the different colour panels that are available. It is a little difficult to change the panels at first, but considering the range available, you will soon have had enough practice to change them quickly.

For the practical (and lazy) among us, the machine is also really easy to clean. So basically you can get your caffeine fix without big hassles. Win. And, as a bonus, the frother also works beautifully.

Give it a crack at home, the office or anywhere that the need for artificial wakefulness is serious.

Nespresso provided IOL with the Pixie Clips machine for this review.
