London - It may be thought of as the most important meal of the day – but, in reality, for many it’s barely one at all.

We spend an average of less than seven minutes eating breakfast, research has found.

And, despite four in five adults agreeing it is the most important meal, increasingly busy lives and hectic work schedules mean many people skip it altogether, with 37 percent opting for a lie-in instead.

Researchers found people take an average of just six minutes and 15 seconds over breakfast. This stretches out to 13 minutes and two seconds on the weekend.

The poll of 2 000 adults, by food firm Oatly, found only just over half are eating breakfast each day, with 40 percent admitting they rush the meal.

An Oatly spokesman said: “The joy of sitting down to our most important meal is being forgotten.” - Daily Mail
