Cape Town - It’s all happening in and around McGregor village.

One-day celebrations of good food and wine in past years have evolved into the McGregor Eats, Drinks and Art festival, promising a three-day feast for the tastebuds and inspiration for the soul.

Youthful talent and creative enthusiasm have combined to dream up an innovative programme that takes in stalls where the valley’s vintages will be poured and delectable finger food served. There is so much more, as art takes on gastronomy, the local pizza champion takes on a contender and artists mount exhibitions both indoors and out.

Test your whisky knowhow at a Quaff & Quiz event in the old post office bar, and work up an appetite viewing Babette’s Feast. Try a tutored tasting by a master brewer, and head to Millstone Pottery for Desserts on Dishes. Work off the kilojoules at a barn dance, and start your Sunday with a picnic brunch among the spring flowers at the Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve before heading to Art in the Garden at the Temenos Retreat.

Among the valley wineries taking part are Lord’s, Tanagra, Kingsriver and McGregor cellars, while two new labels to watch out for are Solara, an organic and well- balanced sauvignon blanc, and a maiden cabernet from a little vineyard at De Kaap.

Don’t miss out on the affordable trio of Eseltjiesrus wines whose profits help fund the Donkey Sanctuary and vinous choices include the products from a few boutique cellars from the Robertson valley as well.

While McGregor is en fete, the orchards and veld will add spring blossoms and blooms to the historic streets.

Events take place at various venues. The wine and food fair in the church hall starts at 10am on August 30 and 31. Tickets cost R75 and can be pre-booked through the Tourism office and through PayFast online.
