New frying pan put to the test

Johannesburg - Your cooking skills aren’t half as important as the cookware you choose to make your food in. Any old frying pan, frankly, just isn’t going to do.

I tested the new Bauer Eco-Stone 28cm frying pan. The non-stick surface makes cooking a pleasure. I found the less oil I used, especially when frying crumpets or eggs, the better the food cooked. It’s perfect for stir-frying and cooking chicken, fish and steak.

Cleaning the pan is a pleasure because the dirt glides off – no harsh rubbing or scouring required. Remember to use only utensils made from wood, plastic or silicone because metal utensils will scratch the non-stick coating.

The pan is suitable to use on electric, glass and gas hobs, but will not work on induction plates.

The handle has a heat indicator ring that turns from black to white when hot to show that cooking can begin, which I found useful.

* The pan comes in a range of sizes and colours. It is available from Verimark and outlets that sell their products at a cost of R399.
