Durban - Banting champion Tim Noakes is used to slugging it out with critics of his high fat, low carb diet, but was sucker-punched this week by a koeksuster-wielding YouTuber.

It all started innocently when popular South African video blogger (vlogger) Suzelle DIY introduced her best friend Marianne on her YouTube channel but then shoved her off the screen.

She then introduced Real Meal Revolution author Noakes to viewers before ordering him to smile – which he duly did, like the cat who got the cream.

Suzelle explained how “carbon-hydrates” were “out” and “fats” were in, with Noakes chipping in that “sweeties, chocolates are the deviiilll!,” much to the host’s disappointment.

The “boeremeisie” then got down to the business, making a Banting-friendly cauliflower pizza.

With Noakes lending a hand, she asked the University of Cape Town professor whether he ever gets into trouble. Noakes, tactfully, did not answer.

With the pizza made, Suzelle thanked Noakes for being part of the three-minute video.

But then the script took a sugary twist: Marianne reappeared with a bowl of koeksusters as a gift for Noakes to thank him for being part of the show.

Noakes balked and said that they were made of sugar and flour, which are against his diet.

But Suzelle denied that sugar and flour were among the ingredients. An indignant Noakes then stood up and declared that he had been set up!

Marianne would have none of it and with a steely resolve attempted to force-feed him as he valiantly tried to ward off her koeksuster advances.

The video has been flop-proof, with more than 150 000 views on YouTube in three days.

Cornia Cronje posted: “I laughed so hard. Definitely my favourite video so far.”

On Facebook: Christelle Van Der Merwe said: “So flippen funny I sommer laaiked her page,” and Sylvia Martinovic said: “Glad to see that Tim Noakes has a sense of humour!”
