London - Whether it’s lemon drizzle or a traditional Victoria sponge, few of us would deny enjoying the occasional slice of cake.

But one in six women like it so much they would happily choose it over sex, a survey found.

When asked what they would be willing to give up if it meant they could keep eating cake, 16 percent of women said making love – compared with just nine percent of men.

A quarter of people would never have a glass of wine again and 13 percent would ditch their mobile phone.

And it seems people are more than aware of others’ weakness for a slice of their favourite. For one in eight workers admit taking cake into the office to butter up their boss, while 11 percent of men confess to using it in an attempt to win a woman’s heart.

“Cake is one of the things the nation simply cannot live without, even if it just a little treat every now and then,” said a spokesman for Mr Kipling, which carried out the poll of 2 000 people.

Other essentials that come second to a sweet tooth include social media (24 percent), a car (nine percent) and the internet (nine percent).

And when it comes to our favourite type, chocolate cake takes a comfortable lead with 50 percent of the votes. Victoria sponge comes in second place, with lemon drizzle in third. - Daily Mail
