London - Having a good gossip every day may lower the risk of becoming ill by protecting against inflammation, suggests new research.

Negative experiences such as stress are known to raise inflammation.

Scientists at Pennsylvania State University’s Centre for Healthy Aging wanted to see if positive experiences could have the opposite effect.

They quizzed 1 000 men and women about how their days had been every day for eight days.

Questions included whether they’d shared a laugh with someone or had a good conversation. Blood samples were also examined for inflammatory markers.

People reported positive experiences on 73 percent of days, but those who had more positive events also had lower levels of inflammation. High levels are associated with conditions such as heart disease and cancer. - Daily Mail
